Be-Mobile launches commercial RDS/TMC service in Belgium: “BE-TMC”.

BE-TMC provides full, nationwide Belgium traffic information (covering Flanders and Wallonia). BE-TMC traffic information is very detailed, it includes all standard features that are expected from a TMC service: road works, accidents, traffic jams... but adds advanced features such as: mobile speed checks, police controls and traffic congestions always mention the average speed.

In addition, the BE-TMC covers not only the major roads (highways) but also the secondary roads.

The BE-TMC traffic information is created by combining content from different sources:

  • GSM tracking & monitoring (C-FVD; cellular floating vehicle data) When drivers are calling from inside their car, their GSM communications are tracked moving along the road, creating measurements of speed and position.
  • GPS track & trace equipped cars (G-FVD, GPS floating vehicle data) Tracking in real-time the position and speed from more than 20.000 cars in Belgium.
  • Government data The Belgium government provides data about road works and traffic jams on a limited number of major highways in Belgium.
  • SMS services
Drivers can an SMS for the location of mobile speed traps...
  • Touring Mobilis Be-Mobile is owner of the Touring Mobilis contact centre, which is the focal point in Belgium for gathering “journalistic data”: people call Touring Mobilis to report traffic congestions, incidents, speed traps.

BE-TMC is transmitted in the FM-band, using STU BRU in the north part of Belgium and Classic21 in south, guaranteeing optimal reception quality in the whole of Belgium.

BE-TMC is a fully encrypted service, customers require a BE-TMC enabled device (portable GPS device, built-in car GPS...) in order be able to use the service.
